Firelands Historical Society
Firelands Historical Society is the oldest continually-operating museum in Ohio and the second-oldest historical society in the state. We are dedicated to the education and preservation of Firelands-area history through collecting and exhibiting regional artifacts ranging from toys and clothing to archaeological finds and agricultural equipment. Our museum covers all of Erie and Huron counties and a small part of Ottawa and Ashland counties. We are currently fundraising for our expansion project.
Our museum is made up of two buildings — the Preston-Wickham House and the Laning-Young Research Center. In our research center is our archaeological exhibit that contains one of the finest collections of prehistoric artifacts in the state, including “Speedy,” our ground sloth.

We hold several events throughout the year that require volunteer help to set up, run, and tear-down, in addition to regular volunteers needed to staff both buildings during our season.
Our museum operating hours are:
May: Sat. & Sun. 11am – 3pm
June – Aug.: Thurs. – Sun. 11am – 3pm
Sept. – Oct.: Sat. & Sun. 11am – 3pm
